PTSD & Complex PTSD Counseling

You are strong. You are resilient. And healing is possible.

For those living with PTSD or Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), life can sometimes feel like you’re stuck carrying something heavy—something that’s been with you for far too long. Even when the world looks safe, your body may tell a different story. It might show up as tension you can’t shake, as a mind that feels stuck in the past, or as emotions that arrive suddenly, without warning.

Maybe you’ve told yourself to just move on. Maybe you’ve tried to push it down, stay busy, or avoid the memories altogether. And yet, it still surfaces—in the racing thoughts, in feeling disconnected from yourself or others, or in the weariness of holding it all together day after day.

But here’s the truth: what you’re feeling is not a failure. It’s a completely human response to experiences that were overwhelming, painful, or prolonged. And more importantly—you are capable of healing.

PTSD & Complex PTSD Counseling

What Are PTSD and Complex PTSD?

Both Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) are natural survival responses to trauma.

PTSD often results from a single overwhelming event or a few distinct traumatic experiences—a car accident, an assault, natural disaster, combat, or a sudden loss.

C-PTSD comes from long-term, repeated trauma—often deeply personal and relational. This might include childhood abuse or neglect, domestic violence, emotional manipulation, or years of living in unsafe environments where escape wasn’t an option.

If PTSD feels like a wound from one moment, C-PTSD feels more like a thousand tiny cuts over time—ones that impacted your sense of safety, your identity, and your ability to trust.

Both are treatable. And both are survivable.

How Trauma Shows Up

Trauma touches more than just memories. It shapes how you experience the world—physically, emotionally, mentally, and relationally.

People often describe it like this:

  • “I feel like I’m always bracing for something bad to happen.”

  • “I don’t feel like myself anymore.”

  • “No matter how hard I try to avoid it, it keeps finding me.”

  • “I’ve built walls to keep myself safe… but now I feel alone behind them.”

Trauma can cause intrusive memories, flashbacks, and nightmares. It can leave you feeling numb, shut down, or hyperaware—sometimes all in the same day.

When trauma has been ongoing—as it often is with C-PTSD—it can also leave deeper wounds: difficulty regulating emotions, a constant sense of shame or worthlessness, and trouble trusting others or even yourself.

How Trauma Shows Up

It Doesn’t Have to Stay This Way

There is another side to this story—and it’s not just possible, it’s real. We’ve seen it.

Healing is learning how to feel safe in your own body again. It’s noticing your triggers—but instead of feeling controlled by them, knowing how to navigate them with care and confidence. It’s rediscovering moments of calm, of connection, and even joy.

People who have walked this road often say:

  • “I still remember what happened, but it no longer controls me.”

  • “I feel like myself again.”

  • “I trust myself now—I know how to take care of me.”

What Healing Can Look Like

Healing isn’t about erasing the past—it’s about expanding your life beyond it.

Yes, there may still be moments that are hard. But the difference is, those moments no longer define you. More and more, your days become filled with things that bring peace, meaning, and connection. You begin to recognize your strength, your capacity for joy, and your ability to build a life that feels safe and fulfilling.

You start waking up with more hope than dread. You find yourself laughing more. Connecting more. Trusting yourself in ways that once felt impossible.

This isn’t just survival anymore. This is living.
